Heather and Nick’s Rhinebeck Wedding: Dogs, Dragonflies and Dreams

I’m often asked to do more extensive blog posts, especially when the historic Hudson Valley plays a big part in the festivites. I thought Heather and Nick’s Dragonfly Themed wedding was the perfect one to choose to showcase some of what the hudson Valley offers, so here goes!

Heather and Nick were married on July 1st, 2011 in Historic Rhinebeck.  Heather got ready at the famed Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck, which was the perfect place to do their “first look.” Bentley, their Jack Russel, was present for this important moment and he ws glad to see his mom for sure!  Hair by Carol Gruden of A Step A Head Salon in Poughkeepsie, Gorgeous makeup by Karen from LaV Beauty, Flowers by Floral Fantasy in Rhinebeck, Cake by The Pastry Garden in Poughkeepsie, Jack Russell by Dale Mountain’s Russel Refuge of Rhinebeck! (http://russellrefuge.org/)

The ceremony was at the beautiful Dutch Reformed Church in Rhinebeck, and the formals were done at Mills Mansion, both of which are also quite historic locations. Reception was a short walk to the reception at the American Legion of Rhinebeck. Dragonfly decor was present everywhere…from the invitation, to the bouquet, to the flashing lights at the reception. Heather and Nick love their animals, and the tables were all themed after an animal in their lives…especially Bentley….who I’m sure thought HE was the groom!!

Double Trouble-The Sinclair Twins

This year I waited anxiously for the arrival of little Carter and Keanu, and I was lucky to photograph the family before there arrival and after. Big brother Kyle was great for the maternity shoot and I’m sure has been a big help to his mom and dad, whose wedding I did years ago and I’ve known them forever..

I was so excited I went prop shopping and found this great planter that looks just like a cut log! With much effort, we did get the big boys in there but their healthy size was a bit too much for the planter. Daddy is a loggin’ man and a tree guy, so I thought it was the perfect accessory. All in all though, nothing beats au naturale (naked babies!) , and that’s the shot I like best!
