This year I waited anxiously for the arrival of little Carter and Keanu, and I was lucky to photograph the family before there arrival and after. Big brother Kyle was great for the maternity shoot and I’m sure has been a big help to his mom and dad, whose wedding I did years ago and I’ve known them forever..
I was so excited I went prop shopping and found this great planter that looks just like a cut log! With much effort, we did get the big boys in there but their healthy size was a bit too much for the planter. Daddy is a loggin’ man and a tree guy, so I thought it was the perfect accessory. All in all though, nothing beats au naturale (naked babies!) , and that’s the shot I like best!
My new favorite place to shoot at Christos is against this simple brick wall, which gives me opportunity for a “different look” to some of the images, and so far the images have been fun!
Derick’s wingtip shoes….ya gotta love ’em!!
> On Memorial Day weekend, I had the pleasure of doing a Trash the Dress shoot alongside Jennifer and Michael Walker of Beautiful Memories Digital videography. We had shot Marissa and Justin’s wedding last year, and so enjoyed them that we were thrilled when they expressed interest in doing this type of shoot!
We started out in Poughkeepsie along the waterfront and then by Mahoney’s Irish Pub for some portraits before we got them REALLY dirty.
We had one more portrait sitting in mind before we completely trashed the dress. I had purchased an old rust-red leather chair from a yard sale and really wanted to try an edgy shoot in the woods behind my house using that chair. A totally natural setting, but a little different and upbeat. Marissa and Justin took to it like fish in water! (and then we moved on to the REAL water!!)
Our last location was Pine Woods Park in Hyde Park. I had been there many times but never ventured beyond the swingset, so I was stunned when I saw the waterfall and beautiful creek running through. I snapped a portrait of Marissa on a log stretching across the creek that I am particularly fond of. She is stunning!
Stay tuned to Beauiful Memories link on the right for the video portion of the day. I am sure Jennifer and Mike are cooking up something amazing!
>Deanna and Jeff’s wedding happened on a rainy day in June this past season (were there any UN-rainy days back then???) The spring and early summer of 2009 was a time for us photographer’s to “shoot between the raindrops” and make lemons out of lemonade.
Well this couple certainly got some good images despite the weather, and I had alot of fun with them as well. They were married at the Chapel at Bard College, which was lovely, and used a mansion on the property for their formals. The mansion had a large covered porch with pillars which really help us out, since it was POURING when we got there, and when we left!
The reception was at Hillside Manor in Kingston, NY. Everything was accented in red, which is, of course, my favorite accent color of the year! The favors were adorable, little terra cotta pots filled with seeds. Everyone had a great time and I enjoyed making their album!
Photographing their wedding would have brought a tear to anyone’s eye. To see such a profound sense of family and such love between them was inspiring to say the least.
